A myomectomy is a surgical procedure that involves making an open incision in the lower part of the stomach and abdomen to locate and remove fibroids. Alternatively, your surgeon may opt for a laparoscopic myomectomy, which involves making a series of tiny incisions to remove the myomas. Automation of this process is possible. Compared to abdominal myomectomy, this approach is less invasive, and the recovery time is shorter. Finally, in a hysteroscopic myomectomy, the surgeon inserts a specialized scope through the vagina and cervix to remove the fibroids.

Occasionally, a blood transfusion may be necessary if there is significant bleeding during a myomectomy, regardless of the surgical approach. However, this situation is not typical. To minimize the risk of needing a blood transfusion during the operation, it is advisable to address any pre-existing anemia before the procedure.
