Shoulder arthroplasty

Shoulder arthroplasty or replacement is done to repair a shoulder joint that has been damaged by arthritis, accidents and tumours. It is done to relieve pain that cannot be controlled with other treatments. During the procedure, the damaged joint surfaces are replaced with prostheses. The shoulder replacement procedure is a complicated one and requires experienced hands as well as specialised facilities for surgery, postoperative care and rehabilitation.

MIOT International’s surgeons perform anatomical shoulder arthroplasty, including stem-less shoulder replacement, as well as the reverse shoulder arthroplasty. The latter is a more complex procedure where the prosthesis is attached to a different set of muscles. It is done for patients with previous unsuccessful shoulder replacements, failed or neglected fracture management, very bad fractures, dislocations and bone tumours. It requires special care and is performed in only a few centres in India. Patients recover a full range of painless movements within a short time.

Elbow arthoplasty

Elbow arthritis occurs when the cartilage is damaged or worn out, causing pain, a grating sensation, locking and stiffness. Our surgeons opt for arthroscopic surgery to explore and repair the damage that results in stiffness in the elbow. During the procedure, loose particles, inflammatory and dead tissue is removed, irregular surfaces are smoothed out and the locked area is released.

Total elbow arthroplasty is performed if the joint is severely worn out or the elbow is fractured beyond repair. Here, the damaged joint is replaced with a customised prosthesis.

Wrist and hand arthroplasty

Wrist and distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) arthritis can occur as a result of wear and tear, injury or rheumatoid disease. When this causes severe pain and dysfunction, a wrist replacement surgery is often the best solution for the patient.

Finger arthritis is common in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. When the knuckle-joints are affected, patients experience severe pain and the function of the hand becomes limited. This can be helped by joint replacement, which restores mobility and relieves pain.
